Past Project: Shipping Dock and Yard Lighting for Overnight Operations
A shipping dock does its hardest work after dark. Trucks back to the dock through the night, crews move between trailers and the building, and forklifts share the yard with pedestrians.
This commercial outdoor lighting installation was built for that reality: light placed where the tasks are, uniform coverage across the yard so there are no dark lanes between trailers, and glare controlled so drivers backing in can actually see the dock.
The Project
Industrial sites get the least design attention and carry some of the highest stakes. The dock face needs vertical illumination so crews can see into trailers.
The yard needs uniform horizontal coverage so a pedestrian is visible anywhere between the building and the fence line. Fixture placement has to respect truck swing paths and trailer parking, which rules out pole positions that would work fine in a retail lot.
This was a specification-based lighting installation: the fixtures, mounting heights, aiming, and circuiting were documented before the first crew arrived, and the installation was executed to that document.
